Grants 2026

Roof grants in Brussels

Renolution grants are no longer awarded for invoices from 2025 and 2026. Here is the support that remains to insulate or renovate your roof in the Brussels-Capital Region.

Roof grants Brussels have all but disappeared in their usual form. Renolution grants, which funded roof insulation among other things, were frozen in 2024 and are no longer awarded for work invoiced in 2025 and 2026. In 2026, the Brussels government confirmed that it would not reinstate this system and announced a future scheme of interest-free loans, with no confirmed date or terms to date. The specific support for small roofing jobs has also been withdrawn. Does that mean giving up on insulation? No: other options exist.

Support still available in Brussels

6% VAT

This is the most important lever. For a private home more than ten years old, roofing work invoiced directly by a registered contractor in principle qualifies for 6% VAT instead of 21%. See our article on reduced VAT.

The Ecoreno loan

This regional loan at a preferential rate finances energy-saving work, including roof insulation. The rate depends on household income. It lets you spread the cost of a renovation without taking out a conventional loan.

Municipal grants

Several Brussels municipalities offer their own support, for example for insulation, renovating facades and cornices or green roofs. They change regularly: check with the planning or environment department of your municipality.

Free advice from Homegrade

Homegrade, the Region’s housing advice centre, provides free support to Brussels residents on their renovation projects: technical, planning and financial advice. A good first step before starting your project: homegrade.brussels.

Should you wait for the future scheme?

Waiting for a scheme whose date and conditions are unknown is risky if your roof is showing signs of wear: a leak or missing insulation costs you money every winter. If your project is not urgent, follow the news on the official website renolution.brussels. If it is, reduced VAT and the Ecoreno loan already make it possible to cut the bill significantly.

The particularities of Brussels roofs

Brussels houses have particular features that we know well: shared roofs, timber cornices with box gutters, extensions with flat roofs, access often limited to the front facade, and road occupation permits to apply for when putting up scaffolding. We handle these formalities and, where necessary, coordinate the junctions with neighbouring roofs.

Information as of 5 October 2026

Brussels policy on renovation support is being redefined. Always check the conditions on the official websites before signing a quote.
