Grants 2026

Roof grants in Wallonia

Habitation grants ended on 30 September 2026. Since 1 October, Wallonia has supported energy renovation through two subsidised loans: Rénopack and Rénoprêt. Here is what changes for your roof.

Roof grants Wallonia reached a major turning point in autumn 2026. The temporary Habitation grants scheme, which funded roof insulation, replacing the covering, roof timbers and rainwater drainage, closed on 30 September 2026. It has been replaced by a new system based on subsidised loans, more focused on the least energy-efficient homes. Here is what you need to know if you are renovating your roof in Walloon Brabant, Hainaut or elsewhere in Wallonia.

The end of Habitation grants

To benefit from the old scheme, the work had to be completed and the full application, including the final invoice, submitted by 30 September 2026 at the latest. If you submitted your file within that deadline, it is still processed under the old rules. All new projects are subject to the rules of the new scheme.

Since 1 October 2026: Rénopack and Rénoprêt

Rénopack

Rénopack is aimed at owner-occupiers in the lowest and middle income categories who undertake to live in the home. It takes the form of an interest-free loan with a reduction in the amount to be repaid. The lower the income, the larger the reduction.

Rénoprêt

Rénoprêt is aimed at households with higher incomes, landlords and co-ownerships. It finances the work as a loan, with no reduction in the amount to be repaid for the highest incomes.

CategorySchemePrinciple
Low incomesRénopack0% loan, large reduction in the capital to be repaid
Lower-middle incomesRénopack0% loan, partial reduction in the capital
Middle incomesRénopack0% loan, more limited reduction

Income thresholds, reduction percentages and borrowing limits are set by Walloon regulations. Check them on the official website before preparing your application.

The main conditions

  • A recent energy audit is in principle required before applying. It identifies the priority work and the target EPB rating.
  • A performance target: the project must improve the home’s EPB rating, with more ambitious targets for the least efficient homes.
  • A coherent project: a stand-alone job on a single item is no longer automatically supported if it does not contribute to the set target.
  • Work carried out by registered contractors.

Where does the roof fit in?

Roof insulation remains one of the most effective ways to improve a home’s EPB rating, and very often features among the audit’s priority recommendations. A roof renovation with sarking insulation therefore fits naturally into a Rénopack or Rénoprêt project. Conversely, simply replacing a covering without insulation is unlikely to be funded.

Where to apply

Applications go through Wallonia’s social credit bodies, such as the Société wallonne du crédit social and the Fonds du logement de Wallonie, together with the energy advice offices. Official information is published on the Walloon Region’s housing portal: logement.wallonie.be.

What still applies: reduced VAT

Regardless of the regional loans, 6% VAT still applies to roofing work on a private home more than ten years old, invoiced directly by the contractor. See our article on reduced VAT.

How we support you

  1. A free visit and survey of your roof.
  2. A detailed quote, in line with the recommendations of your audit.
  3. Technical data sheets for the insulation and the thermal resistance achieved.
  4. Photos of every stage and a complete invoice for your file.

Information as of 5 October 2026

The new Walloon scheme has only just come into force. Its terms may still be clarified: always check the conditions with the official bodies before signing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still get a roof grant in Wallonia without a loan?

Since 1 October 2026, regional support has been provided through Rénopack or Rénoprêt. The reduction in the amount to be repaid under Rénopack effectively plays the role of the former grant.

Is an energy audit compulsory to insulate my roof?

To benefit from the new support scheme, an audit is in principle required. Without regional support, you can of course insulate your roof without an audit and still benefit from reduced VAT.
